Spiritus
Pendulum life support system for submarine rescue vehicles
Designed by Zoe Dawson
Spiritus is a compact emergency life support system designed for use within submarine rescue vehicles (SRVs), providing clean and breathable air to occupants during secondary onboard emergencies such as contaminated cabin air or failure of the vehicle’s CO2 scrubbing systems. The device operates as a pendulum-mounted breathing unit connected to the SRV’s onboard nitrox supply, delivering a continuous flow of breathable gas to the user.
Designed to be stored compactly behind the user’s knees, Spiritus folds away when not in use to minimise obstruction within the confined SRV environment. The system prioritises rapid deployment and reliability, ensuring occupants can maintain access to breathable air during high-stress rescue scenarios where onboard environmental systems have become compromised.
