An off-grid charging station for electric vehicles in remote areas of Scotland
Boost is an off-grid charging solution that combines 10kW of renewable wind energy generation with 600kWh of chemical energy storage to provide 50kW rapid DC charging. This 50kW DC charging will enable cars to recharge to 80% battery in 30 minutes.
The station has been designed to enable electric vehicle use in rural areas of Scotland. In particular, it seeks to make the popular tourist route, the North Coast 500, accessible by electric vehicle. Boost will be implemented at strategic roadside locations between towns and villages to enable the long range journeys required for everyday life and tourism alike in the Highlands.
The charge station itself serves multiple functions. As well as providing charge, the circular form allows the user to take a seat inside the structure. The form also creates a viewfinder, focusing the best view in the landscape.
