PACE
Prosthetic Aid for Conflict Environments
Designed by Millie Spence
PACE was developed in response to the rising number of lower-limb amputees in conflict zones, particularly within temporary displacement camps where access to prosthetic care is extremely limited. This leaves many individuals unable to carry out basic tasks, where mobility can be essential for survival.
PACE is a kit-of-parts, temporary solution that enables users to assemble and custom-fit a prosthetic device without the need for a trained professional. The kit contains all required components, tools and instructions to support independent assembly and fitting. Designed for short-term use, it can be worn when mobility is required and removed afterwards
At the core of the product, a particle-jammed system forms a rigid, load-bearing interface that is tailored to the individual user’s residual limb.
