inDistil - Calum Doig
Enabling bars and venues to produce their own spirits in house
The alcoholic beverages industry in the United Kingdom was worth £39.9 billion in sales in 2016 with wine and spirit sales accounting for around £21.1 billion (53%) of the total. Of that, £9.8 billion is from spirit sales, with vodka and flavoured spirits accounting for 48% and gin accounting for 11.5%. Gin, in particular, is one of the fastest growing sectors of the market with the number of distilleries increasing from 116 to 233 (an increase of 117%) between 2010 and 2015. This rapid rise in the number of distilleries has been driven by the resurgence in popularity of gin, and more specifically, craft gin.
inDistil is a micro-batch still targeted at bars and venues with the aim of enabling them to make their own gin and flavoured vodka in house, with no previous experience in distilling. Bar staff can use the inDistil app to guide them through the distilling process with ease while allowing them to experiment with flavours and spirit styles.
inDistil can produce up to four litres of spirit per batch in less than four hours giving the users the opportunity to create a product that is unique and set their establishment apart from the rest.
