A self-assembly modular loudspeaker made from rice husk
Designed by Harry Baker
Designed to adapt over time, this loudspeaker transitions between monitor, bass reflex and floor-standing configurations, allowing users to respond to changing listening environments without replacing the product. A modular, adhesive-free construction enables repair, upgrade and full-disassembly. Constructed from RICETAB, a material derived from agricultural waste from rice production.
This loudspeaker design challenges the conventional model of glued fibreboard enclosures, highlighting the need to move away from MDF to reduce environmental harm. It reflects a shift in design thinking, where sustainability is embedded from the outset through material choice, construction and user interaction.
