Doppelgänger - Anna Campbell
Making accurate, custom dressforms more accessible to the home sewist
Doppelgänger utilises 3-D scanning technology and a mobile app to provide customers with a sustainable, affordable and accurate, cardboard body double to aid in the creation and fitting of garments.
Aimed at the home sewing market, users use their phone to take just 3 photographs; one of themselves front on, one of themselves side on and one of their background. These pictures are then used to generate a 3-D model, accurate to within 5 mm on all measurements.
After trimming and processing, this 3-D model is used to create the users very own Doppelgänger.
Each Doppelgänger is made from around 200 (depending on the size of the user), pieces of C-flute, corrugated cardboard layered to form a body double. The unique design of the stand allows the pieces to be assembled and used without the use of glues, maintaining the structural integrity of the cardboard and ensuring easy recycling at the end of life. Unlike other dressform options, the Doppelgänger is fully pinnable and the height adjustable stand gives users full freedom over how they use their form.
With Doppelganger users can fit clothes to their Dressform confident that they will also fit them.
