Lungs
A portable, multipurpose off gas hood for monitoring wastewater treatment N2O emissions
Designed by Ashna Nauman
Lungs is an off gas hood designed for improved mobility and functionality to measure nitrous oxide emissions in the biological wastewater treatment process. It has been developed in collaboration with the Scottish Water Research and Innovation team.
Off gas hoods isolate and transfer gases from the wastewater to an emissions analyser. Existing rigid, 1m2 surface area solutions require third party contractors to install reducing mobility and increasing costs. Inspired by the movement of gases in biological respiratory systems, Lungs splits the required 1m2 surface area across four 0.25m2 areas that can be nested for transport and assembled on site. It also allows for both spot and spatial sampling to be carried out to determine variations in emissions across site.
